There are quite a number ways with which you can read books online for free. 
Most of the paid magazines cost nearly 15 – 120$ a year. In one of my earlier posts, i have explained how you can read popular magazines for free online. You could read magazines like PC MAGAZINE , MAXIMUM PC, Forbes Asia, National Geographic etc using the method mentioned in that post. Here are some good resources for you to read popular books online without buying them.
1) 20200k
This is a huge online directory with a lot of popular books, free ebooks. The books are divided into various categories. The popular ones include Arts & Photography, Biographies & Memoirs, Business & Investing, Engineering, Books for Children, Health, Mind & Body, Science, Computers & Internet and many more. These have a lot of sub categories too.You could find tons of free books in here and if you are interested you could get the link to download the book too.
2) Google books
Google too has the service to find popular books online. Millions of books from various libraries and publishers can be found easily with the Google Book Search. You could also find various categories such as Business & Economics, Cooking, Computers, Family & Relationships, Games, Gardening, Health & Fitness, House & Home, Psychology & Psychiatry, Religion, Self-Help, Social Science, Technology & Engineering, Transportation, Travel and a lot of others. Upon searching a book, you could find the results with the book title, author name and other details included.
3) Digital Library
A good book directory with a collection of 30,000 books online. They have search options to find the books by author name, title etc.
4) Ebooks download free
This is one of the biggest ebook sharing website which mainly include books for the people related with computer. Their popular categories include Ajax, ASP dot net, C Plus Plus, C Sharp, Computer Hardware, CSS XHTML, Databases, HTML, Java, Javascript, SEO, Web design, Visual Basic etc.
