A large number of people out there wondering if there is any way to use the features like Media center or Network Projection of windows 7 which are disabled in windows 8 RP (Release Preview). Yes we can use these features and as far as windows 8 RP is concerned, it outshines windows 8 RTM(Release to Manufacturing) in which you need to purchase all these extra features, download and then install, but in windows 8 RP, it is too much facile. You just need to enable these features, no extra purchasing or download is required.

Here are the easy steps to get features enabled on your system (PC, Tablet).

STEP 1:  Go to desktop, PC users move cursor to the top right corner and then downward. Whereas tablet users just need to swipe down from the top right corner to see the charm bar. Go to search and type “Add Features” and select “Setting”. You will be shown up with some options. Choose “Add features to windows 8”.

STEP 2: The computer will ask you for the permissions, allow it and a pop-up will appear to ask you that whether you have product key or not, choose “I already have the product key” and use this key.


STEP 3:  Click on button “Next” and check the appropriate option to agree with license agreement, then click on “Add Features”. The computer will start adding features to your windows 8 RP. It’ll take some time depending upon your PC. Once the process get completed, simply restarts your computer and you’re done

STEP 4:  Now to enable or disable any features, simply go to desktop once again, make charm bar visible using the method described in STEP 1. Type “Add Features” in the search bar and choose “turn windows features on and off”. A complete list will appear including all the enabled and disabled features.

1. .Net Framwork 3.5 (Include .NET 2.0 and 3.0) :

It was previously known as active Directory Application Mode (ADAM). It is basically developed to provide support to Window Server and the applications which rely on directory enabling. Some same services also appeared on surfaced in past, but this one is the most refined and flawless than all of those. The best part of ADLDS is that it doesn’t rely on any other service or application to do its work.

4. Hyper-V:

5. Internet Explorer 10:

It seems that Microsoft understands the threat Internet explorer is facing after the release of latest versions of Chrome and Firefox. 7. Internet Information Services Hostable Web Core:

Hostable Web Core (HWC) is basically an integrated part of Internet Information Service (IIS). Using this awesome feature, you can host the whole IIS functionality on your own server. 14. Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP):

It is an internet standard protocol for managing devices on IP networks. The devices supports this feature include switches, routers, workstations, printers, modem racks, server and others. It is not for normal users, but widely used in network management systems to keep track on attached devices.

15. Simple TCPIP Service (i.e echo, daytime etc):

TCP/IP is the most famous protocol used by internet nowadays. In other words, you can understand it as a collection of some command line utilities include “quote of the day” protocol, daytime protocol, character generator, echo protocol and discard protocol.

16. Telnet Client

To connect with other computer on same network using Telnet, client files are used by host computer to share data with the target PC. However, proper configuration is required to establish a successful connection between two PCs.

17. Telnet Server:

This is the file need to deploy on the target PC with which you want to establish connection.

18. TFTP Client:

It is a limited version command line utility which cannot transfer files more that 33 Mb. This is the reason due to which it is not very useful in most of the cases. However, in low level projects, experts recommend it. Nowadays, some very useful replacements like WinAgent’s TFTP have appeared on surface which have through it out of the scene.

19. Windows Gadget Platform:

In latest version of windows, there is a dedicated application for the reading of XPS documents whereas in earlier versions, it was possible to read these documents just by using internet explorer.
